multiple catalogs one checkout

I've been wondering as to exactly how one would go about setting up Minivend
in the following environment:
What would be the best config for this. Mike, perhaps, you might want to
comment here ?
1. 3 completely distinctive product lines
2. 1 checkout page (ssl) <-- this part is easy
3. all databases or database with multiple tables using mysql i.e. ( db-1,
db-2, db-3 or db-1 --> table-1, table-2, table-3 )
4. as much of the components in SQL database and which should remain in
ASCII format, i.e. shipping.asc
I think this description / solution would be of great help to firstly
myself.. and then to everyone else who's wondering as to how to achieve
this.
