Trouble with Search string! (uppercase/lowercase)

Hi list,

i have trouble to find an items with full UPPERCASE. The search string
is i.e. "müller" and the item-field has "MÜLLER". The code in my search
page is

 <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="mv_case" VALUE="yes">&nbsp;&nbsp;[L]Case sensitive[/L]

but the checkbox isn't checked. I have try with VALUE="no". No success. 
I can find all items if i search for "MÜLLER". The checkbox "mv_case"
has no effect. 


Other example1:
I have a field "verlag" and some items has in this field "WESTFÄLISCHES
DAMPFBOOT". I try to search for this items with "westfä". No success and
i get a message like

Sorry, no matches for       

and no value of the searchstring or a message like

Sorry, no matches for westfä

If i search for "WESTFÄ", i get all items in my results page.

Other example2:
If another field "author" has a name like "Müller" and i search for
"MÜLLER", the result is

Sorry, no matches for  MÜLLER 

But if i search for "müller" i get the right results.

I am wondering, why i get a right message, if the search is
unsuccessful and sometimes a wrong message, if the search is
unsuccessful. I have believe, all search is not case sensitive, if the
checkbox "mv_case" is not checked.

Any helps, hints and tips are very welcome.
