I would like to make some statements before replying to Jonathan's comment:

1) I have no intention to argue or challenge icdevgroup's recommendation.
2) I like interchange. And I do very appreciate icdevgroup's contribution,
particularly, the group is now on its own, without support from commercial
companies.
3) I have no relation with company making cpanel at all.

Now, let me begin with fact -- the interchange demo version 4.93, installed
from cpanel of our server. Any one is welcome to click on the link below and
explore its possible deficiency due to the cpanel.

http://www.msihosting.com/~msihosti/cgi-bin/cart.cgi

Please note: it's secure server enabled. If one would like to see the admin
interface, please feel free to send me an email.

I believe it would be instructive if its deficiency compared with non-cpanel
installed demo could be identified.

As a matter of fact, the title of Jonason cited icdevgroup's comment on
cpanel confirmed the possible use of interchange installed by cpanel:

" Interchange is not suitable for running with CPANEL unless the hosting
provider has expertise and makes it available to you. And they almost never
do."

The "unless" and "almost" are specially maked by me just to bring the
attention. Doing so, I don't meam that we are expertise, or we are
exceptionals, but just to point out the recognized suitability.

According to the comment

"Some of those might not be a problem
if the users were well-educated and willing to pay for support for
Interchange",

it's not that interchange can't run under cpanel. The main problems to my
undstand is this : some people

"They come into our community and expect people to waste their time
spoonfeeding them packaged solutions for free".

Well, people of this type will do the same disregard how interchange is
installed. So, the problems are the user, but not the "by product" of
cpanel ".

In our server, we provide SSH access, we also sell instantSSL at $49/year
with free installation of the certificate. Interchange is upgraded from time
to time without affacting running of carts built under old versions, just
providing upgraded admin interface and new features. A user even doesn't
know the upgrade if not loging in the admin interface. So, we are able to
provide stable running condition, necessary working environment, and keeping
up with the development of interchange. In our server, there are catalogs
built under version 4.3, and now running under 4.93.

In the interchange user mailing list, many posts about problems on each
upgrade. Our users have been having no problem at all

That's why we say with confident that we are Interchange-friendly ISP.

Most people are users but not developers of interchange. What are the
advantages users can obtain from installing and upgrading by themselvef? The
most apparent I see is the extra learning in installation, and flustation in
upgrading. Many people use perl, but no many people install perl themselves
unless they have to, such as when using in a PC.

Interchange would become much better if it could be structured like perl. A
core is installed shareable system wild, and one can add additional or
private modules. By the way, in our server, we install modules upon
customer's request if it's not installed yet. To see, what have been
installed, click this link.

I'll continue on SSL issue.
