[ic] The Crypt Function

I am running Linux Slackware 2.2.6 and Perl 5.6.0

When I try to log into the demo store I get the error message that due to
excessive paranoia the crypt function has been disabled.

I believe that this is a Perl problem. I've tried re-installing Perl several
times, and I've tried to figure out what is turned off or missing and I'm
not getting anywhere.

But, until I can get past this hurdle, I can't even get into the back end of
the store!
