I expect this is a setting in the web server.

E.g. for Apache on Linux, you need the following in the
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file:

...
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php index.<you get the idea?>
...

If you're running Microsoft IIS, the index page is normally default.htm
You will need to change this in the config.
