You can change the type of display area in the administration by going
to "Content" and then selecting the page you would like to change.

To change from Random to Specials, change the drop-down for "Select
Component" from "Random Items" to "Promotion."

You can change it directly in the associated HTML document by altering
the [component]CHANGE ME[/component] tags within the associated
[control-set] tags.
