[ic] interchange was fast now slow

Hi all,

When I initially installed interchange I was blown away at the speed of
my new dedicated server.  Both the foundation demo was fast as well as a
much larger sample store that I put in for testing and configuring.
That store has approx 700 items in gdbm.  Pages were coming up almost
instantly.  I was performing searches that would return four or five
hundred products in about 2 seconds.  I have no idea what changed.  Now
even a catalog that is unchanged (foundation demo) is really slow....
I checked the docs and searched the archives.  They said possible
problems were: 

server specs- Mine is 1Ghz processor 512MB Ram and I have only 3
catalogs installed and 3 sites.  These site pages are still fast.  The
carts were fast as well as I mentioned.

Sessions- I expired all sessions and cleaned out session data. No change

I checked the logs, server and IC, and nothing is out of the ordinary.

Can anybody help me see where to look next?  I need a little
direction....

By the way, there is little to NO traffic on this server as of yet, so
that cant be it, the only traffic is us doing testing.
