[ic] IC Newbie - Item edit stripping product group and making it the category

I'm having some problems with the item editor.
The catalog was imported using the wizard and spreadsheet.
When editing a sku, the product groups and categories show up in the
select fields. After editing the description and pressing "Ok", the
product group for that item is missing and the category is changed to
what the product group was.

Please advise.
