Maybe you have something like this in catalog.cfg:
	Variable SQLDSN dbi:mysql:<your db>
And this works if mysqld is on the same host as IC

Now try:
	Variable SQLDSN dbi:mysql:<your db>:mysql.myisp.com
And maybe it will work.
