[ic] New To IC: 4.8 or 4.9???

Hello all.

I am brand new to IC, and am really excited about working with it.  My question is this:  

Would I be better off installing and getting used to 4.8 or 4.9?  

If I can get the hang of it I may need to put it into production within 4 - 8 weeks.  Is or will 
4.9 be ready for a production environment within that time frame?
