That's it. Preopen the table before [item-list] works fine.

If preopen the table for every item the error.log shows:
Safe: Can't locate object method "open_table" via package "Vend::Table::DBI"
when using your advanced $Tag->... syntax.
Using my nasty syntax the error.log shows ...skipping...
