As bar-code scanners go, I think they can usually be configured to act
as a simple text-input device. Likewise there are similar card swipers;
or there used to be. As for a cash drawer or other hardware, that is a
little more complicated.

It is also true that you need to be aware of card present / card not
present rates. Ask your merchant account rep what you need to do to get
the best rates.
