Thanks Mike,
I was able to get it working based on this tip. One "gotcha" I had was
that my owner field had been designed to be a sequence of numbers, where
"owner_field" really expects something like a distinct user_name". I
worked around this by naming my user "1".
Maybe in addition to the "owner_field", there could be an "owner_id"
which wouldn't have to map to the username, but would otherwise work the
same way.

No, insertions didn't work for me. :) So I won't use these feature for
now in my website. I document about the insertions failing a little more
in a recent message.
