Maybe because you are not using the feature correctly? I think you are
supposed to do something like this:
[set my_profile]
mv_search_field=description
mv_search_field=category
mv_search_field=manufacturer
mv_orsearch=yes
[/set]
Then in the search form, set a variable with the name of the profile:
<INPUT TYPE=hidden NAME=mv_profile VALUE=my_profile>
