I got the above message too when installing on FreeBSD 3.1. I ignored
it and proceeded without problem, so I don't think that's your problem.
Also, it should be fine if you only start in UNIX mode and the INET
tests fail You only need one these methods to run your shop. UNIX is
safer I believe, so ISPs prefer it. . It looks like it's the
server/control test that's getting you. That happened to me when 4.x was
in the alpha stage, and it turned out to be an issue with my BSD machine
and the 'make test' script I think. I'm guessing the file that's locked is
/home/v/visprox/mvend/etc/minivend.pid
see if it exists and try deleting it to start the server again....
