Paul,

catalog is running without SSL/https. It works also with minivend. The
next step is to get catalog running with SSL/https. First of all, do
you use an own certificat for your catalog or do you use an extra
secure server? Make sure, your ISP has a right setting of apache.conf
(if remembered right, your are using the apache webserver). 

In my case, i use one domain for both (with SSL and without SSL). There
are some way to cause the behavior you have. A wrong starting of apache
webserver _with_ SSL, some misbehavior regarding the password for your
SSL/cert-file, wrong setting in apache.conf. If i remembered right, you
can use the SSL/https-connections with your static pages. It seems to
me, the SSL-Part for your domain isnīt set right in apache.conf of your
ISP. 

In my case, i have two kind of apache log files. One without SSL and
one _with_ SSL. Maybe you can look into your apache log files and try
to get more informations and hints?

Ask your ISP and point them to the trouble you have. Something is wrong
in there apache.conf with SSL and CGI.
To check the SSL-Connections with minivend, you donīt need to changes
anything in your catalog.cfg or to restart the minivend server. The
fastest check is to rename "http" to "https" in your urlbar of your
browser.
