Re: [mv] Windows Status
****** message to minivend-users from "Eran Binyamin Zeitoun" <eran_zeitoun@karmail.com> ******
Hi List, Dear Mike!...
The current release of ActiveState Perl 5.6 cannot run Minivend as needed,
lots of basic things does not run
such as the sql support, and what should work best the "fork" thing, is not
fully implemnted, as i spoke
to the guys in activestate, the promised that things will run smooth as soon
as possible...., but for now it
will take time... So dont run to make the tests on Win 2000 since i already
made, and it was a total
failure...., it was running at the end..., but i will consider it as not
runing..., since it ran slowly than 3.14.5
on perl 5.22...
Also, Windows 2000 Advanced Sevrer (the normal "server" version wont be
release yet..) require for a good
run a 128mb memory... it will opreate very bad with 64mb running IIS and
especially perl 5.6, so prepare an extra 128mb if you want your system run
smoothly...
As for the Makecat..., I can offer my self to create a installation packege
for windows 2000 (.msi packege)
or windows 98 (Installshield packege) which will handle all varibles and the
packeges downloads from
active state servers (using the ppm) & mail utilitys / sql.
I dont know the amount of users in the list who runs their system with
windows, but if there are enough
i will offer my little knowledge in the Microcrap Windows enviroment if any
one have any questions.
Regards,
Eran Binyamin Zeitoun.
