I've long thought that would be a great (though very mundane) opportunity.

I would pay **more** than that just to subscribe to a moderated version
of this mailing list. The moderator would build the documentation as 
part of the deal and answer the FAQs off list.

There are a number of mailing lists I've had to unsubscribe because
the SNR was just way too low.  It would be well worth it to me to subscribe
at say $50 a pop to more lists if the volume was reduced to maybe 10%
of current by a good moderator.  The delete key does not cut it when you've
got a flood of messages with bad thread names.
