[mv] help with minvend

I have played with minivend for a few weeks now and still get the same 
error msg
We're sorry, the MiniVend server is unavailable...
We are out of service or may be experiencing high system demand, please try 
again soon.

I installed as a user not root..
So i am thinking I should uninstall and start again?  If so what command 
would unistall it completely?
If anyone can maybe shed light as to why I get this error that might save 
me doing a new install?
I have Red Hat 6.1.  It is my own server not a ISP.
I just did the normal install
perl Makefile.PL
make test && make install
That seemed happy.
I did the bin/makecat basic
then i did the ./restart
This gives the same msg "the minivend server was not running"

As always any help is appreciated.
