[mv] SQL and ifs question

quick question for any one who could help
I have been using minivend with mysql for a little while now and

I need really to be able to perform IF's on a sql-param

i.e.

[if sql-param something == 2]
..some stuff...
[/if]
 

but can not seem to be able to do that,

does anyone know how I can do that with out seting tempoty values to perform the
if on, becuase that seems just a bit messy. I'm sure that there is a clean way of doing
this type of it but can not find how to.
