Sorry, but it is difficult to understand you (I'm an old german boy). If
I undertand you right, the 

[item-price or whatsoever with noformat or noformat=1...]

print out such kind of "$xyz", remove any chars (for example "$") from
your any database (or tables).

Perl will get the value "0", if there are any character with any numbers
in the price field. 

I would stongly suggest to insert _only_ numbers into the price field
(for example "123.45" or "999.99" and not "99,00" or "123,00").
