[mv] duplicate products within some categories

for some bizarre reason, a couple of my products
are occuring twice within some categories. even though
they are seemingly set properly in the database...

one product is supposed to be in both my cards and gifts sections
however, it occurs twice in both (I have different code numbers for each
intended occurance)

and one product is supposed to be in both cards and custom sections and for
some reason it occurs twice in cards, and not
sequentially either...

any ideas on what I can try to correct this?
I am getting near the wits' end.
