A few ideas (most CRON type checking)
1. [ `ps aux | grep interchange | wc -l` -lt 1 ] && <send mail or something
2. Use a catalog link program (any install of tlink or vlink) e.g.
/home/httpd/cgi-bin/construct test=1
Check the return and do what you want if it does not work:

3. Use a TCP port monitor to connect to Interchange port ( I use sMonitor
and it is able to test if the listener is up)
(This requires INET mode enabled on Interchange server and that you don't
have firewall blocking the port).
