Usually this is not fatal - the install should complete, and you can
then 
go on to running VENDROOT/bin/makecat. Just specify UNIX when asked what

type of socket you want to use for the cgi link file, and your catalog 
should still run.

[Ryan Holowaychuk - KCP] 
this is the thing that it does prove fatal it does not install at all,
when I look in the usr/local/  there is no interchange folder.  And even
when I try and do a custom install I am not able to get it to work.

what is the space that is required for interchange, as I am wondering if
that is causing the problem???
