Do you still have the old ones laying there in the vars directory?  If so
then they are probably still overriding the new ones you made.  Either move
the old ones out of that directory, or edit the originals and change the
variable name to something else.  If you look in those files you will see
that the content is defined as a variable, so if you put new files in place
but leave the old ones lying there, you are defining it twice, and the old
ones are probably being defined last and overriding your new changes.
