[mv] Checkout weirdness...

Warning before I even start describing the problem... This is all customer
anecdotal. I cannot find any corroborating evidence in my error logs and I
cannot make the problem happen myself. I am not certain that this is
really happening...
That said, one of my clients has been receiving a number of emails from
people complaining that they cannot checkout from their site. Their
current system is running MV-3.14 on a system running Red Hat Secure Server
with a Thawte cert. (Apache/1.3.9 (Unix) Red-Hat-Secure/3.1 mod_ssl/2.4.5
OpenSSL/0.9.4) The one end-user who has ever replied to my emails asking
for more info has told me they are running MSIE 5.5, and when they click on
checkout, they get a "Standard IE 5.5 server time-out error." My secure
server is the same box, with the same IP as the standard web server. I
only encrypt the checkout page to save time and load on the server. I
cannot reproduce this error, every time I try to do a checkout (either
locally or over dialup) it works fine. The shop takes orders daily, so
this problem is not affecting everyone. The only weird thing that I can
find in my minivend error log (and I don't know that this is related...) is
a lot of entries like this:

I know I haven't given you a lot to go on, but I've given you all I have
and I'm stumped... Has anyone else had a similar problem?
