Re:A BREAKTHROUGH!: [mv] Still struggling with mv4 installation.
****** message to minivend-users from Ed LaFrance <newmedia@newmediaems.com> ******
Hello All -
I ***finally*** have Minivend 3.14-5 running in that install which has been
giving me so much trouble.
I have done so many things to try and get it going, I'm not sure I can tell
you definitively what the one thing was that made the difference (assuming
it was just one thing).
Up until moments ago the server was complaining about Minivend.pid with
permissions error messages. I found a place in the docs where it was
suggested to change socket file permissions to 666. I did this and
restarted the server and it said:
"Couldn't open Minivend.pid. This shouldn't happen, tell somebody."
... and the catalog still didn't work, but at least I was getting "Were
sorry, the Minivend server is unavailable..." instead of the less
informative MS IE error "this page cannot be displayed."
I then applied:
chmod u+s cgi-bin/mycatname
to the cgi file for the catalog...and that did it! I had done this before
and it did not work, but maybe because it was not in combination with other
things I have tried since!
So it was an issue of permissions and user ownership after all.
I want to thank Joachim, Bill, and everyone else on the list who provided
there comments and ideas as to the nature of this problem. You helped to
solve the problem and gave me the strength to go on trying! This certainly
was the most problematic install I have done, but I will take the happy
ending :-)
Yes, glutton for punishment that I am, I will now try again with 4.02!
Regards
- Ed L.
